On August 21st, Providence Cristo Rey High School 2018 graduate Naziah Stamps signed his letter of intent to play soccer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana, becoming the 5th athlete and 3rd soccer player in school history to earn an athletic scholarship. At the event, Naziah stated, “I feel amazing. Truly blessed. I am very excited for school and to be part of a new program. I cannot wait to see what this season holds.” His new head coach, Abe Tizaf commented, “I’m very excited to sign Naziah. He is going to be a great addition to the team and institution. Cannot wait to see him play.”
During his time at PCRHS, Naziah became the all-time leading goal scorer with 38 goals in 36 games. He also posted 9 assists and was selected by his teammates as the recipient of the following team awards: 2014: MVP – Overall, 2015: MVP – Offense, 2016: MVP – Offense. He was also a guard for 4 years in the Wolves Varsity basketball program and participated for two years on the track and field team.
His former head coach at PCRHS, Brittany Leerkamp stated, “I’m very proud of Naziah and excited that he gets the chance to take advantage of this opportunity. He is the kind of player that could go very far when he takes himself and that goal seriously. He knows how to overcome adversity on and off the field and I can’t wait to see what he does with his future.”
On Wednesday, August 22nd, Naziah played in his first exhibition match against Franklin College which resulted in a 2-2 tie in which he had two shots, but no goals yet!
